A Word From The President
AAM Volunteerism Can Impact Your Career
Fifteen years ago I attended my first AAM Summit. As a “newbie,” I was welcomed not only to the event, but also the association with open arms. I remember being in awe of the leadership and shocked they would invest their time getting to know me, someone new to the association and the industry.
All these years later, I credit these and so many other wonderful AAM members for my success in the accounting marketing industry. As I got to know fellow AAM members through my volunteer involvement, attendance at chapter meetings, AAM summits and executive leadership conferences, my AAM peers became an extension of my team; sharing advice, tools and ideas and offering themselves as a sounding board to vent frustrations.
I’m excited to begin my term as AAM president, and because of its positive impact on me, I want to focus my efforts on VOLUNTEERISM. I’ve been a member of AAM for 15 years, and I’ve served the organization in a volunteer capacity for 14.5 of those years!
Did you know, with the exception of Executive Director Lauren Clemmer and Association Coordinator Jessica Kiser, AAM is an all-volunteer organization? To complete our committee goals and Vision 2020 projects, we need approximately 45 NEW volunteers in 2017.
Here are the top skills we need:
- Backend website (CMS) – WordPress and Higher Logic
- Project management
- Database administration
- Public relations
- Process documentation
- Graphic design
Please consider volunteering your time and talents to AAM. It will fulfill you. It will connect you. It will help you develop much deeper relationships with your peers. And it will help advance your career and the profession.
In the words of Henry Ford: “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is success.” I look forward to working with you over the next year.
