GETTING TO KNOW YOU

  • What is a “must know” for new accounting marketers? Your job is a lot more than just marketing. Learn about the business of your firm – where new business comes from, how the firm makes money, how decisions are made, what’s important to the other leaders and partners at your firm, how other operational departments function and how you can collaborate. If you can become a business advisor for your firm, you’ll go far.
  • What are your special skills or what is something people may not know about you? I make a damn good bowl of guacamole 😊
  • As a new Hall of Fame inductee, when and how did you first get involved with AAM? My first boss, Katie Tolin, got me an AAM membership when I first joined my firm in 2005 and immediately asked me which committee I wanted to join. Almost 20 years later, I can’t imagine NOT being involved in AAM.
  • What is the biggest benefit you receive from your AAM membership or what affect has AAM had on your career? I wouldn’t trade the relationships I’ve built through AAM for anything in the world. This organization has so many brilliant, collaborative members who are always willing to brainstorm, problem-solve, and lend a listening ear. Getting involved in committees and Circles is the best and fastest way to build those relationships!
  • What do you feel is the biggest issue facing accounting marketers today? Our profession has been historically slow to change but I’m noticing that changes are happening a lot more rapidly now. It’s important for marketers to stay on top of emerging trends, especially digital transformation. Educate yourself so you don’t get left behind.
  • What would you be doing if you had not become a marketer? I would love to be a detective, or open a sanctuary for dogs who need a loving home.
  • What is the biggest project you are working on right now? We are launching a new brand and new website in November, so that is keeping me pretty busy!
  • What books have you read recently that you feel would be beneficial to other AAM members? Accountants! Go Narrow: Turn the Power of Industry Specialization into Profit for Your Firm by my new friend Alice Lerman
