16 Things to Include on your Career Page
Now that you have your candidate personas and know what job seekers are looking for and how to talk to them, let’s talk about your career page on your website. If you’re like me, over the past couple years, your role has shifted from finding clients to finding talent. I’m currently in the middle of re-vamping our whole website, and one of my priorities is our career page.
Here are 16 items (in no particular order) to consider including as well as some examples of companies who showcase these items well.
- Firm benefits and perks – especially unique ones like REI’s Yay Day and Hubspot’s global week of rest and paid sabbatical program.
- Intuitive job search and job listings for open roles. If potential employees can’t find your open roles, it doesn’t matter if you have the most beautiful career page on the entire internet. Make sure job postings are easy to find, like including a CTA in your hero image. Both Active Campaign and Netflix do this, but my favorite is Mito’s clever things headline.
- Highlight your departments if you have multiple departments. Check out Salesforce’s department page Cisco Meraki’s department spotlights are filled with insights about what their jobs are like.
- Your hiring process. Google lays out their whole process here, and Seat Geek has a section dedicated to what their process looks like with simple explanations and expectations.
- Employee testimonials. Graphics or videos are great for this! Ben and Jerry’s 3-pints-a-day page is a creative way to showcase why employees love working there. Netflix has TONS of employee highlights on their own special blog, and C3 showcases Glassdoor reviews.
- Company videos like office tours, team member introductions, company accomplishments, company history and mission, and how to apply. ActiveCampaign has eight videos on their career page! And Harry’s video about their story? You can’t miss it.
- Clear calls to action! Whole Foods’ hero image has a CTA you can’t miss, and the following sections have CTAs that make it easy to navigate to important sections.
- Company location details plus local activities and events. Also indicate if your office is fully remote. Salesforce’s locations pages showcase city stats, testimonials and pictures of that location’s employees. Epic even showcases all the popular events that take place in their HQ city.
- Visually appealing colors and fonts and a reasonable amount of white space. Kickstarter’s color scheme and bold graphics are intriguing.
- Photos of real employees like Blue Apron’s “Life at Blue Apron” section. Oh, and Harry’s. Harry’s again.
- Mission, vision and values. One of the first sections on AirBNB’s career page includes their mission, followed by their values.
- Showcase what the job is like. Shopify has a fantastic “What We Do” video showcasing all sorts of jobs within the company and the things they do. And Pinterest’s PinFlex features a day in the life of the Pinterest team.
- Statistics and case studies like number of employees, years in operation, and types of clients. Swapfiets’ statistics infographic is a quick overview of how people use their service and where. In addition to Mito’s great CTA on the career homepage, each job description has a “Good to Know” section with a link to the business unit you’ll work for that includes case studies and clients.
- DEI and social initiatives. Pinterest’s career blog has a whole section devoted to DEI, and Zendesk does an even better job with a whole page full of DEI content.
- Firm social media and blog posts with recruiting content. VML’s social feed allows you to see what the company is all about without having to leave their page.
- Upcoming recruiting events. Don’t forget to tell recruits where you’ll be next! JB Hunt includes a university relations section with a schedule of on-campus events and an option to sign up for alerts for events near you.
