When asked about receiving the Rookie of the Year Award:
“Receiving the ‘Rookie of the Year Award’ has been a great motivator. The award brought new relationships and opened up doors for me--and my firm. AAM membership is one of the best investments in my career my firm and I have ever made. Nowhere else can you get instant access (through the Discussion List ) to such a large group of accounting marketing minds. The membership is made up of smart, helpful folks who go out of their way to help you tackle any problem, whether it is professional or even personal in nature. And the culmination of this camaraderie is most evident at the annual AAM Summit where we all get together and recharge, bounce around new ideas, and catch up on the latest advances in marketing for professionals. I simply can't imagine being as effective in my position without the support and constant learning offered through AAM. Samantha Deeder

“Thank you! It was a really honor and I was genuinely surprised -- I wasn't aware that my firm had nominated me. It felt wonderful to be awarded something like this by a group of my peers. I thoroughly enjoyed the AAM convention (my first) and can't wait for next year's in Austin.” Benjamin Plantan

Although I had considerable marketing experience, working for an accounting firm was entirely new to me. The AAM Discussion List continuously provides a venue for me to bounce ideas around, discuss industry trends and share best practices. It has been an indispensable tool for me in my position. I believe in AAM as an organization that can fundamentally change the way the profession does business development and will help firms achieve a better ROI on their investment in marketing. As a member, I can share best practices with other members, learn what is working for them, stay on top of trends and ultimately offer my firm more and better ideas to help them achieve their growth goals. In this highly competitive profession, AAM offers its members (and their firms) the opportunity to achieve pinnacles of success that firms without a connection to the association will not reach on their own. The membership dues pay for themselves many, many times over. Carrie Steffen

As the first Director of Marketing at my firm, I face many challenges. Having no past experience in professional services marketing and having few established programs within the firm to build upon, I have come to truly appreciate the amazing resources available through AAM. From the Discussion List and Marketer Toolbox through which members share ideas, tools and techniques, to the annual conference where members network and brainstorm the latest trends in accounting marketing, AAM has helped me seamlessly transition to this new and exciting field. Being new to accounting marketing and the only marketer in my firm, it was vital for me to have an available resource on marketing best practices. I've used many of the tools available through AAM and found the members to be genuinely supportive and open to sharing new ideas. I've also gained many new friends from joining my local chapter and enjoy the camaraderie shared by the group.

AAM offers so many great resources including the Web site, the Discussion List, the annual conference, and the newsletter, MarkeTrends. But perhaps the most valuable benefit to being an active AAM member is the personal interaction you have with people who share similar issues and challenges. Everyone is so supportive that you can't help but become a better professional services marketer through AAM. Jack Kolmansberger

Having joined AAM earlier this year, I have reaped the benefits of being part of this dynamic organization. I find that sharing experiences, requesting assistance and lending material with colleagues "in the same boat" is a beneficial way to grow a business.
What I have been most impressed with is the caliber of individuals I have been in contact with over the last six months. It's especially encouraging to find marketers not only thrive in this economy, but also to observe women, in particular, flourish in a traditionally male-dominated role. Now that's inspiring! I joined AAM about a week after I took my position as Director of Business Development & Marketing. Not having worked for an accounting firm before, I felt like I had to start from scratch to help my new company create its marketing foundation. The support and education I received having joined AAM has been tremendous for me. I immediately was able to create my first marketing campaign which I learned about during my first AAM-hosted webinar. Being able to connect with my peers across the country gives me the support and ideas on a daily basis that I need in my position. The content on the AAM website is very valuable, especially the Marketing Toolbox, which I refer to on a regular basis. I am looking forward to attending the 2009 AAM Summit in Austin next June. My AAM membership is the one tool that is a “must have” in my budget this year and next. Lynda Mulley

As a Partner I find it both challenging and stimulating to belong to AAM. From the first day, I was overwhelmed with the thirst the members had to learn and improve. The energy I see at AAM meetings invigorates me. I have been in the profession for more than 30 years and sustaining enthusiasm sometimes is not easy. In the six years of my association with AAM, my marketing energy sustains and AAM is an important element for me. Burt Bierman

Being new to the accounting industry, my first two months as an AAM member definitely put me on the right track for success. The welcome call gave a great overview of the resources available through AAM, and the discussion list is a fantastic tool to share tips of the trade. In fact, the first week on the discussion list, I discovered a great resource for a review of accounting firm websites, and was able to share it with our partners. While I'm only reading and applying the advice right now, I plan to be able to contribute soon.

I’ve had many years experience in marketing, and my current position is my first in professional accounting services. AAM is an incredible resource for accounting marketers, with invaluable materials and other resources right on the Web site! From the initial experience of the Welcome Call, which walked me through the AAM Web site, to the informative Discussion List, right through to the exceptional member service, it’s been an impressive experience. I can’t wait to attend the AAM Summit in June!

The wonderful, rich friendships I enjoy with AAM members can't be beat. There are opportunities to develop friendships, share ideas and help others via AAM conferences, committee work, the increasingly useful website, e-mails back and forth and so on. Our Los Angeles chapter makes the most of membership with monthly meetings. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing a person you have been working with via e-mail or phone at the yearly conference. The main reason I attend the conferences is to find old friends and make new ones. Lyne Noella

I have found that AAM is the only centralized place where accounting marketing professionals can go to share best practices and elevate their game. It is where they can find and develop the tools to become stakeholders in their accounting firm. I really depend on conversations, meetings and e-mails from AAM and fellow members; they help me re-focus on how to create, measure and manage results so I can generate revenue and help grow the practice. The AAM annual conference is an incredible resource for the newbie and old pro alike. There's really nothing like it - 400 people in one place who do exactly what you do for a living. Most of us are on our own the other 51 weeks of the year - a lone sales and marketing voice adrift in a sea of accounting professionals. But, a week at the AAM conference gives us the tools, ideas and contacts to show improved ROI when we get back to the office the next week. Chris Perrino

The educational opportunities are fantastic, and the interaction on the listserv is amazing – there is always someone out there willing to share knowledge or offer advice.
